The Maxi Challenge History of the Log Cabin

Today we bring you a little more dragon history. Did you know that we had log cabins before there even were people. They were huge buildings made from trees that no longer exist upon the earth. We had no power saws or even hand saws so sawing logs was done with finely tuned breath fire. After a big bowl of beef, kitten, and marshmallow soup one dragon would fly up and cut off all the branches on the tree. In the process the poor dragon was slapped and tickled by the branches not yet cut. It was almost as if the tree was aware of what we were doing and was fighting back. One poor dragon lost a leg when two branches suddenly pinched shut and acted like a scissors. That even was remembered and one of our more opportunistic dragons used it to invent your regular scissors.
When the logs were all cut and the cabin built the floor of many of them were covered with a Teflon like substance made by melting some kind of rock. The more idealistic among us, however, insisted that only a dirt floor was proper for a dragon. Eventually this caused the great split and the Floor Wars but that’s another story.

Flash Fiction

Friday 55 Flash Fiction is brought to you by G-man (Mr Knowitall). The idea is you write a story in exactly 55 words. If you want to take part pop over and let G-man know when you've posted your 55.
With a nod to Raven and Quilly
( This week's Raven's words were wonderful at 16 words)
teflon, idealistic, marshmallow, opportunistic, kittens, beef, sawing logs, slapped, tickled, scissors,
ripen, shelve, laminate, goofy, Siamese

The problem with having only sixteen words is we dragons always see more than one possiblity . Then we fight over which one to publish. Today we offer you both of them.

The Office

Behind the idealistic Teflon inventor's personal desk was a goofy mural showing two Siamese kittens being tickled by a marshmallow man while sawing logs.It was partly hidden by the expensive laminate shelve on which there was a scissors, four cans of slapped beef from the Opportunistic Beef Company and some beginning to ripen tomatoes.

Serial Cat Killer

Being opportunistic the idealistic killer used the Teflon laminate pan to kill the Siamese kittens there being no scissors available. In his usual goofy manner he covered the bodies with marshmallows and beef drippings and slapped them down on the shelve of sawing logs to ripen. It tickled him no end to watch the process.

And Now for something completely different. And we mean completely different.
First there is poetry- written well by a few experts. You know it when you see it.

Then there is poetic drivel- written by many. Lots of fun and often punny.

Then below them all is quivel.
The following is quivel.
It in no way even pretends to be poetry or drivel.
Instead it is something that looks like a poem, uses at least three of Quilly’s words.
In this case it is also a flash 55 quivel since it has eleven lines with exactly five words to a line. Please, again, note this is a quivel it does not pretend to be a poem or even poetic drivel.

CULTivated

Scaevity was his from birth
Made him doubt his worth
Till gnathonized by the cult
Which lead to this result
Pretending to be real nerds
They roblet him with words
Mellifluous the words all spoke
His ego they had to stroke
They lived a ruricolous life
Away from the world’s strife
With music from the fife.

Quilly 42

It is a Quilly day. Time to take Quilly’s three words for the day and write a story.
The 3WT #42 words will be:
scaevity = unluckiness
gnathonize = to flatter
roblet = to lead astray

The cult looked for people whose primary feature seemed to be scaevity to gnathonize and roblet.

Because he knew how to gnathonize people one did not expect that anyone could roblet him but one must take into account his scaevity.

Sir Roland Uppity , Knight of the Round Table and Slayer of Dragons, was not know for scaevity but a shape shifted dragon was able to gnathonize him and roblet him to an old clearing where the dragons got their revenge.

Nellie Blot was a con artist of the old school who could easily identify people whose primary feature was scaevity and then gnathonize them into seeing themselves as special people. She could then roblet them into one of her scams.

People whose primary feature would seem to be scaevity are hard to gnathonize because they have such low self esteem they see all flattery as lies. One can however roblet them by offering good luck charms that are guaranteed to work..

WE are sure that our loyal readers do not suffer from scaevity but you might as well if you don't use Quilly's words. We know you are smart enough to see the value and we are not trying to gnathonize you by saying that. Nor are we trying to roblet you but simply calling your attention to the truth.

Raven's Challenge 96

It is Saturday and time to play with words supplied by Raven's Wordzzle
Words for this week's 10-word challenge are: Badger, roll out the barrel, amazing, a lovely cup of tea, pressure, frozen, gandalf, pixies, top gear
And for the mini: smelly, politician, favourite, token gesture, garden

A Mega Challenge
The Politician

Roll out the barrel was playing
The old donkey was braying
Frozen pixies guarded the garden path
That lead to the amazing Turkish bath
When the smelly politician came
Trying to wash away guilt and shame
Caught by the Badger News in sin
There was pressure to resign give in
Here a lovely cup of tea he had
But thoughts his wife made him sad.
A top gear defense is what he needed
With a token gesture for forgiveness pleaded.
He was the favourite to be elected President
Now never to be the White House resident.
Cheating on his wife while she was sick
Put an end to that dream really quick.
No wizard Gandalf would arise
To wipe the tears from his eyes
Roll out the Barrel would be his song
Drink to forget what he did wrong.

Ten Word Challenge ( Nine this week)
Dragon Origin

.Where did dragons come from? One of our oldest legends says that before dragons there were pixies. These were not little pixies like you see today in frozen statues in the garden . No, these pixies came in all sizes big, medium and little. They also had top gear magic ability and could create anything from a lovely cup of tea to a barrel of whiskey with the wave of a hand. They could even roll out the barrel without ever touching it. Among these pixies there came forth the amazing Wizard Gandalf. He was taller than your average pixie, he was smarter than your average pixie, and he lived longer than your average pixie.
One day when he had just rolled out and consumed two barrels of whiskey he felt pressure on his foot as the ground rose up before him.. It was a huge badger looking for something to eat. Now badgers at this time were considerably bigger than they are today and often ate small pixies for lunch. It is well known that your average pixie is not very smart and very slow to react so many ended up as lunch. But this time the badger was dealing with the Amazing Drunken Gandalf who waved his hand and the badger became your very first dragon created with a real desire to protect pixies from predators. The Wizard was so pleased that he went about finding badgers and turning them into dragons. That’s why there are no big badgers in this age. It is also why to this day dragons will do everything possible to protect pixies.

( This week's Raven's words were bad at 23 words)
Badger, roll out the barrel, amazing, a lovely cup of tea, pressure, frozen, gandalf, pixies, top gear, smelly, politician, favourite, token gesture, garden

End of the Politican

Gandalf was having a lovely cup of Top Gear pressure tea, waiting for his favourite frozen tarts to thaw , and listening to the Badger Choir sing roll out the barrel when the smelly politician made the amazing but token gesture in the garden of the pixies. Irritated he turned him into a very ugly cow.

TV Reporter

Continue to rogitate that question
And send me into depression
My quite ruricolous life upset
Those things I should forget
My risible history on display
Feel like your chosen prey
Yes rimestock runics I believed
I was so easily deceived
Rubefacient effect on my face
You give no worldly grace
Go away from my place.

Portrait of Words 25

A Picture Story from Portrait of Words
Shapeshifting

Greetings. My name is Daniel Dragon and I have been chosen to tell you a secret. We dragons are master shapeshifters. W can become anything .
That clown you saw last summer that was one of us.
We dragons really like to clown around. It is such fun. We just can't leave it to you humans.
Then there was that cute flag girl in the parade . That was one of us.
She isn't the prettiest of dragons but as a human she turns a lot of heads.
In that same parade the guy driving the funny old red car was a dragon. He just loves cars but he isn't a very good driver. Your lucky he stayed off the sidewalk.

If you went to the big football game andd watched the band at half time the trumpet player on the left was a dragon.
If your a student at the University a fellow student may be a dragon or the visiting professor on Ancient History.
You know the one that sounded like he lived it. Well he did.
But we don't always shape shift as humans. Just for fun and practice sometimes we become trees.
Sometimes when a human comes by we nudge him a little. You should see how scared they get.
Well I hope you know a little more about us now.
Remember we could be anybody even your Aunt Gertrude.
